We humbly stand
To pay respects to a Sage
To pay respects to a Wise One
To pay homage to all Respected Chiefs
Who are surrounded by the sacred girdle of Rongo
Kiingi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Te Tuawhitu
Go to the pillow which does not slip, to the couch from which there is no arising
Go to the great abode of Rehua,
To the heights of Pipiri
Go to the great, long, distant Hawaiki, to the Meeting Place of the Spirits
Go e Te Kiingi by the great hand of death
Depart to the dwelling place of Daughter-of-Death
Go, the Sentinel Rock of the Sea, the Sheltering Rātā Tree, the Cavorting Bird of the Perch
Go to your Ancestors, to your Parents, to the People.
Go to the great abode for us
This is our farewell from Te Hononga o Tamaki me Hoturoa
We fondly remember your support to the Conference of World Indigenous Peoples
So we say, farewell, and rest in peace.
Lo, it is death, the dead to the dead;
Lo, it is life, we the living to ourselves
The dead are joined to the dead and the living are joined to the living.
